Cruise Credit Card FAQ

Which is the best cruise credit card?

It depends on which line you sail and how often. Compare current terms on the issuers’ sites; we do not rank cards.

Can I use a cruise card for a cruise booked through a travel advisor?

You can pay with it. Whether card points can be redeemed on an advisor booking depends on the program; ask the issuer and your advisor.

Do cruise card points count toward loyalty status?

Usually status comes from cruising. Some programs let card spending help; check the rules.

Are cruise credit card rewards taxable?

We cannot give tax advice. Ask a tax professional about your situation.

Will applying for a card affect my credit score?

Applications usually involve a credit check. The CFPB’s credit card resources explain how credit works.

Can I pay a cruise deposit with one card and the balance with another?

Often yes. Ask the line or your advisor.

Does my card include travel insurance?

Some cards include limited trip protections. Read your benefits guide and compare with a cruise policy; Cruise & Travel Insurance explains the differences.

What happens to my points if I close the card?

Many programs forfeit unredeemed points on closure. Check the terms first.

Does a cruise card get me a better cabin or price?

The card itself does not change the cruise fare. Its value is in the points and any perks listed in the card terms.

Can two people share a cruise card account?

Many issuers allow authorized users on an account. Points normally belong to the primary cardholder.

Can I pay onboard charges with a cruise credit card?

Yes. Register it as the card for your shipboard account at check-in. Cruise brand cards usually earn their higher rate on the line’s onboard charges; check the terms.

Is a cruise line credit card the same as a ship’s cruise card?

No. Many lines call your onboard ID and charge card a “cruise card” or key card. It is linked to a payment method but is not a credit card.

Can I use points from a general travel card for a cruise?

Many travel programs let you redeem for travel purchases, sometimes including cruises. Check your program’s rules.

Do you get paid if I apply for a card?

No. We have no affiliate links and are not paid by any issuer.

General information, not financial advice. Card names and features were checked on the issuers’ and cruise lines’ own pages in October 2026 and can change at any time. We do not list rates, fees or bonus offers, we do not take applications, and we are not paid by any card issuer. Always compare the current terms on the issuer’s own website before you apply.
